Transgenic animals can be very beneficial. First of all they can help mass produce a certain product at a much cheaper cost like the human-protein milk in transgenic cows(Adnan,2011) Another advantage already stated is that it is a alternative platform for organ donation. For human who needs organ transplants, sometimes there may be a shortage of organs or a suitable donor with similar blood type to help donate the organs. Table 1 shows how many patients are waiting for an organ donation iat a hospital in HongkKong. If you look at the Kidney Donation, there are still 1808 patients waiting for a kidney at the end of 2012. Only 99 kidneys were donated in the year 2012. That is an estimate of 1/20 of the total kidneys needed. However with transgenic pigs, much more organs are available thus reducing the number of patients needed to wait(Beschroner,2012). Pig organs are also considered better thanbrain dead human donors as sometimes the human donors have a disease which may affect the organs and nothing can be done about it as the patient is brain dead. Pig organs would be better as pigs aer much easier to breed and can be controlled and taken care off preeventing the specific organ from being harmed(Beschroner,2012). Xenotransplantation can affect people socially especially the patients and their close ones. Based on personal stories by these patients, being o the waiting list can be quite painful and sad. Having to wait on the waiting list without any assurance on how long, could drive some of them to lose gope, and as each day pass, it brings them closer to their deaths.Their families are scared too as they are not sure when they would go(Lieberman.2012). A few months ago, 9 patients were dead as they were being held on the waiting list for too long, their familes were sad and everyone closed to them were sad. However with much more organs from transgenic pigs available, lesser and lesser patients would have to wait for an organ thus reducing their worries and grief benefitting themy
