What are Transgenic Animals?
Transgenic animals are genetically modified animals. This means that their genes were some how altered to change their characteristics. For some cases transgenic animals are made to be visually interesting, to yield more meat, to perform a specific task better or to study. Transgenic animals' DNA are altered by having the specific DNA of another animal inserted into their own genes(wiseGeek,2013). Figure 1 shows how a transgenic animal is created. Scientist choose the specefic gene that they need for the situation and it is then fused with a promoter. These promoters ensure that the gene can only be produced in the target area. Once several copies of these new promotor genes are created, it is inserted to the egg of an animal which is then plant into the animal. This animal will produce the gene wanted, and its offsprings will too (Helmut,2003).
